System sections allow you to create content items for data that you do not want to display in the same way as standard content. This is useful when you will want to ensure content of the required type(s) to only be available in a single section of the site, but still want the functionality of normal sections and content pages.

Examples of System Sections
  • Profiles - allows users to add content to their profile
  • HTML Content - allows system administrators to create content pages

System sections also allow you to manipulate the url without effecting the site structure, so using profiles as an example, you can now use custom urls such as /Profiles/Blogs/CSharpEd/Default.aspx and /Profiles/Photos/CSharpEd/Default.aspx to display content.
